Development Opportunities

We are committed to offering a wide variety of learning opportunities to all staff.

We offer a wide range of development opportunities for staff at all levels, using a blended approach to learning. We offer opportunities for Leadership and Management development, Career Planning, Job Skills and Personal Effectiveness.

We can also support you through an apprenticeship standard while you work with us.

Which development opportunities to choose?

You are encouraged to engage in development opportunities each year for personal and professional growth. Of course, everyone’s development requirements are different.

To identify activities that will most benefit you in your role, talk with:

  • Your line manager, as part of your appraisal;
  • Your colleagues, about what they have found useful;
  • The Talent and Organisational Development team.

Training is available to staff and students to raise awareness of Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity issues, and to inform you about your rights and responsibilities at the University of Kent.

What do we offer?

  • Leadership and Management: Our offer is aimed to enhance leadership capability and confidence, and equip leaders and managers with the skills to meet the University’s strategic priorities.
  • Personal Effectiveness and Career Planning: Core learning to help your personal and professional development in the workplace, including mandatory training and optional soft skills courses.
  • Job skills: Developing greater competency in day-to-day workplace activities such as setting performance objectives, facilitation skills, coaching skills, conflict resolution and statistical analysis.
