Josie is an experienced Higher Education professional who has over ten years working across metadata curation and information discovery, open research and scholarly communication, equality and inclusion, and management and information systems. She is currently the Research and Innovation Support Manager (Culture and Governance) and leads a team who are enabling a culture of research integrity, providing expert guidance on ethics, governance, and sponsorship, and playing a key role in supporting culture change in research and innovation across the university.
She is also a Co-Chair of the Staff Disability Network, is a member of the Athena Swan institutional self-assessment team (iSAT), and the Accessibility Champions Network. Outside of Kent, she is a member of the Association for Research Managers and Administrators (ARMA), the National Association for Disabled Staff Networks (NADSN) and the University of Warwick’s Research Culture Enablers Network (RCEN).
Josie is a recipient of the University of Kent’s Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Award (2022, 2023, and 2024), the Silver Staff Excellence Award (2023) for the dedication and achievement to achieving accessibility of the Kent Academic Repository, and the Staff Excellence Award (2017) in recognition of her exceptional delivery of the Hidden Treasures Fresh Expressions project in collaboration with Rochester Cathedral.
Josie is passionate about embedding inclusive practices across the research and innovation landscape, including better acknowledgement of the expertise and experiences that are brought to academia by technicians and professional service staff, and the opportunities available to them. She can often be found with a coffee in hand and talking about her love of dogs, and her need to get out into nature to explore our coasts, forests, hills and mountains.
