About

Gaye completed her BSc (Hons) in Psychology at the University of Essex and her MSc in Forensic Psychology at the University of Kent. After a year of lectureship abroad, she returned to Kent and completed her PhD in Forensic Psychology. In her first postdoc, Gaye has worked with Dr Caoilte Ó Ciardha on @HOSH_Project funded by the End Violence Against Children and The Tech Coalition. In partnership with the Lucy Faithfull Foundation and researchers around the world, this project examined help-seeking by people at risk of engaging in sexually harmful online behaviour towards children. Prior to pursuing postdoctoral studies at Kent, Gaye worked for the Probation Service. Gaye is also a qualified counsellor and has experience of working with a wide range of individuals and mental health problems at different third sector organisations providing talking therapies.

Gaye is currently working with Dr Anna Brown on the final phase of the Knowledge Transfer Partership (KTP) project part funded by Innovate UK. This project is based on a partnership between University of Kent and YSC Consulting (part of Accenture) on developing a technology-enabled suite of psychometric tests for leadership development.

Research interests

Gaye’s research to date has been primarily concerned with sexual offending against children. In her PhD thesis, Gaye has critically examined the conceptualisation and the multiple underlying dimensions of perceiving the world as a dangerous place within the context of sexual offending against children, offering a unique multidimensional framework for the concept of dangerous world implicit theory.

Over the years, Gaye’s research interests have expanded and includes online offending, sexual violence experiences of students within higher education institutions and more recently, help seeking by individuals who engage in sexually harmful online behaviour involving children.
