Many students have passed through Kent but what are they up to now? In the After Kent series, we talk to Kinnari Doke about her journey After Kent. Kinnari studied a BA (Hons) in Politics and International Relations between 2013 – 2016.
What do you miss the most about studying Politics at Kent?
I miss the amazing professors and seminar leaders. Their contribution and understanding of their field strengthened my love for politics. I explored different political systems and how international politics is influenced by changing & evolving factors.
What are you up to now?
I am a PhD. Security Studies student at the University of Central Florida. I am extensively involved in researching international security issues.
How has studying Politics at Kent prepared you for the future/current position?
Studying in Kent has helped me understand the nature of politics. I was taught to be critical of the international systems and the related issues ranging from women in politics to nuclear & terrorism issues. Most importantly, I learned about the diverse nature of international politics and security which is something I am focusing on now for my PhD.
What advice would you give potential/current Politics students?
My advice would be to have fun learning politics at Kent! Also, be politically active and keep up to date with world issues! This is very important because it will help you comprehend your position in the world. It will shed light on understanding how we as individuals are part of the world problem as well as the solution to the world issues.
What do you plan to do in the future?
I plan to work in security organizations around the world and help world governments/organizations with the knowledge and expertise that I have attained over the years.
