About

Professor Georgina Randsley de Moura is the Acting Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Kent. A proud alumna of the university, she completed her studies with a BSc (Hons, 1999) and PhD (2004) both in Social Psychology, and an Executive MBA with distinction (2016).  

Georgina is responsible for strategic leadership of the University, building a community to ensure sustainable and successful outcomes. Georgina is accountable for the academic and financial performance of the University, as well as for compliance with regulatory bodies. Georgina is also the key contact for University stakeholders and supporters, including alumni, donors, industry partners, funders, policy makers, and local, regional and national government. Georgina continues as the executive lead for equality, diversity and inclusion. She is an advocate for social inclusion and widening participation, and she champions the access to life-enhancing education for all.

Research and Academic Background and Interests

Georgina was appointed a substantive lecturer in 2007, and she has held visiting posts at Royal Holloway and the Norwegian School of Management. Georgina was promoted to Professor of Social and Organisational Psychology in 2017.  Georgina was previously Head of Psychology (2014-18), and interim Dean of Social Sciences (2019), before starting as Deputy Vice Chancellor in October 2019. Georgina joined Council as a member in August 2020.

Georgina is a member of the Centre for the Study of Group Processes. Her research interests focus on areas of identity, leadership, and innovation in groups and organisations.  This includes studying how groups respond to leaders when they do not meet their group’s expectations.  Her research also considers how individuals, groups and organisations identify and respond to leadership potential. You can find her publications here.
