School of Politics and International Relations
Professor Matthew Goodwin
Professor Goodwin is Professor of Politics and International Relations and associate fellow at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House. He is known for his work on Britain and Europe, radicalism, immigration, Euroscepticism and UKIP.
Professor Richard Whitman
Professor Whitman is Professor of Politics and International Relations, senior academic fellow on the UK in a Changing Europe programme and visiting senior fellow at the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House. His expertise is on the relationship between the UK and the European Union’s foreign, security and defence policies.
Professor Elena Korosteleva
Professor Korosteleva is Professor of International Politics and Jean Monnet Chair in European Politics. Her research interests include EU foreign policies, European Neighbourhood and EU-Russia relations.
Dr Paolo Dardanelli
Dr Dardanelli is a Senior Lecturer in Comparative Politics. He has worked on the relations between regional nationalism and the European Union, with a focus on the UK, Spain, Belgium, and Italy.
Professor Trine Flockhart
Professor Flockhart is Professor in International Relations. Her interests are focused on International Order, European Security and Transatlantic Relations.
Dr Adrian Pabst
Dr Pabst is Senior Lecturer in Politics and Director of the Centre for Federal Studies. His work is in political theory, political economy and European politics – with a focus on alternatives to the dominant ideologies and models. He also has a strong interest in the role of ethics and religion in international relations.
Dr Toni Haastrup
Dr Haastrup is a Lecturer in International Security and has interests in the EU and its role a global actor, looking at EU foreign and security policies.
Dr Luca Mavelli
Dr Mavelli is Senior Lecturer in Politics and International Relations. His interests lie with Europe’s secular tradition and its role in Europe’s conflictual encounter with Islam. More recently, he has also been exploring questions of citizenship and migration through the lenses of neoliberalism and biopolitics.
School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research
Professor Peter Taylor-Gooby
Professor Taylor-Gooby OBE is Professor of Social Policy. He has carried out a number of research projects on public attitudes in EU member countries, social security and welfare systems and immigration. His expertise is on the impact of the EU on social welfare and on immigration.
Dr Heejung Chung
Dr. Chung is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology and Social Policy. Her research focuses on comparative analysis of European labour markets and welfare states. Her expertise is on the relationship between the UK and European Union’s policies on working conditions, worker’s rights, and gender inequality/women’s issues.
Dr Benjamin Leruth
Dr Leruth is a Research Associate. His expertise is on Euroscepticism as well as on differentiated integration in the European Union, and more particularly Norway and Iceland’s relations with the EU.
Professor Roger Vickerman
Professor Vickerman is Dean for Europe and Professor of European Economics. He has taught courses to undergraduates and postgraduates on the Economics of the EU for more than 30 years. His research focuses on the relationship between transport (especially infrastructure), regional development and integration in the European Union. He has been an advisor to the European Commission on these issues for many years. As Dean for Europe he has responsibility for the University’s four postgraduate Centres in Brussels, Paris, Rome and Athens.
Professor Miguel León-Ledesma
Professor León-Ledesma is Professor of Economics and Director of the Macroeconomics, Growth and History Centre (MaGHiC) within the University’s School of Economics. He has published extensively on international macroeconomics and economic growth. He has been a regular consultant for the European Central Bank and the Asian Development Bank.
Dr Fragkiskos Filippaios
Dr Filippaios is a Reader in International Business at Kent Business School. His expertise is on the impact of European Integration and European Enlargement on Foreign Direct Investment and the activity of Multinational Enterprises. He has published extensively in the area and has in the past worked on relevant projects as Senior Research Fellow for the Hellenic Observatory, European Institute at the London School of Economics and Political Sciences.
Dr Carmen Stoian
Dr. Stoian is a Lecturer in International Business at Kent Business School. Dr. Stoian is the author of the paper titled ‘The Benefits and Limitations of European Union Membership as a Security Mechanism’ as well as the paper titled ‘The Interplay between Security Factors, European Integration and Security in Central and Eastern Europe.’ Her expertise is in the economic and political impact of EU membership, including the impact on foreign direct investment, trade and security.
