University Chancellor and former BBC journalist Gavin Esler will host a Q&A at the Canterbury campus on 8 November with Professor Matthew Goodwin, co-author of National Populism: The Revolt Against Liberal Democracy (Penguin Random House).
The event will explore the roots of the current ‘populist revolt’ in the West, from Brexit to Donald Trump, and from Marine Le Pen in France to Matteo Salvini in Italy.
It will take place in the Gulbenkian café on Thursday 8 November from 19.00-20.30 and admission is free.
Across the West, there is a rising tide of people who feel excluded, alienated from mainstream politics, and increasingly hostile towards minorities, immigrants and neo-liberal economics. Professor Goodwin’s book addresses whether these voters are angry, old white men and if their grievances are economic or cultural.
Signed copies of Professor Goodwin‘s book will be available at the event.
