The University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of the Third Age (U3A).
More than 100 members of the Canterbury and District branch of U3A were at Kent’s Canterbury campus for a recent Research Showcase event.
Those attending shared research projects, posters and performances, as well as discussing areas for future partnerships.
The Memorandum of Understanding reflects the University’s commitment to strengthening links with its community and region, as well as U3A’s focus on providing ‘life-enhancing and life-changing opportunities for retired and semi-retired people in Canterbury and district’.
The agreement will see Kent staff provide U3A members with the knowledge and skills necessary to engage with research as well as details of public research open days and other opportunities to engage with the University.
As part of the Research Showcase event, two Kent postgraduates were awarded prizes by a panel of U3A judges for their contribution to the day.
Judges felt that Chloe Gott best explained her research in a ‘clear and engaging way to the audience’. She was awarded an Amazon voucher. Madelaine Hughes produced a poster that was judged ‘the most effectively constructed and explained’. She wins two Special Guest tickets to a forthcoming Gavin Esler In Conversation event.
