Event at British Ambassador’s Residence in Greek capital brings European 2018 series of talks to a close, with over 500 guests attending across the four locations.
The Kent in Athens event took place on 18 May and included talks from three alumni of the University’s Heritage Management MA.
The alumni were Stefano Mongelli, Vassia Hadjiyannaki and Foteini Yannulidi who spoke about the work they have done since graduating. This covered helping a local not-for-profit heritage museum, producing stop-motion cartoons for museums to help educate visitors and developing a yearly conference at the Athens centre.
The Director of The British Council, Anastasia Andritsou, provided the welcome on behalf of The British Ambassador to Greece, HR Kate Smith CMG, while David Nightingale, Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost, gave a welcome on behalf of the University.
The Athens event was the last in the Kent in Europe series for 2018, after Paris, Brussels and Rome.
The Kent in Brussels event took place in March and included a talk from Professor Richard Whitman from the University’s School of Politics and International Relations, who discussed the complexities inherent in the Brexit negotiations and then hosted a question and answer session with the audience.
Meanwhile, at the Paris event in February the Dean for Europe, Professor Jeremy Carrette, delivered a talk reflecting on the importance of continuing international exchanges in education.
The Kent in Rome event took place on 4 April, with a lecture by Dr Thomas Campbell, a former Director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, on his academic specialism of Renaissance tapestries.
