Expectation & Etiquette - tips about rehearsal rubrics

Sheet music with pencil notations

Expectations & Etiquette

Punctuality

Please arrive in time to be in place and ready to play/sing when the rehearsal starts. The time given for the rehearsal is when we start playing/singing, not when you are expected to arrive. We suggest you arrive a minimum of 10 minutes before the given time, or longer if your instrument takes time to get out of its case and assemble ready to play

Attendance

  • There will be a register for all ensembles. If you miss more than 3 rehearsals in a term it will jeopardise your performing in that term’s concert
  • if you are unable to make a rehearsal please email Dan or Sophie

Musical notes

When the conductor gives you a musical note, you are expected to add this to your sheet music, for example: breath markings, bowing, dynamics, tempi, etc.. It is very frustrating for a conductor to have to repeat the same information week after week

Page-turning

This is when you share a stand with another player. If you are the inside player you are expected to turn the pages

Phones

Please keep use of phones in rehearsals to a minimum. We appreciate that you are not always playing/singing, but do not assume what is being rehearsed is not relevant to you within the context of the music. If you do need be contactable during the rehearsal, please let the conductor know before the rehearsal starts
