About

Ian has over 20 years’ experience as a pensions actuary, and previously worked for Aon and its predecessor organisations.

His roles there included Scheme Actuary to one of Aon’s own staff pension schemes, Team Manager, and the lead for Aon’s largest global client events.

He is currently Director of Studies for Actuarial Science.

He has received several ‘Above and Beyond’ awards from students reflecting the quality of his lectures. 

Teaching

Ian teaches on all of our Actuarial Science courses. Areas covered include actuarial risk management, actuarial mathematics, business and communication.

His teaching is practical, using real-world examples, so we see how actuarial techniques are used at work.

Professional

Ian has been heavily involved in the work of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, over many years.

Roles have included:

  • Member of the Pensions Board, and Chair of the Defined Contribution Pension Committee
  • Member of the Education Committee and of Panels reviewing Actuarial Science courses at universities around the world
  • Module Lead for the Pensions Exams SP4, SA4 and P4, responsible for the syllabus and core reading, and oversight over the exams for these subjects
  • Teaching in Armenia, India, Ghana and Albania
  • Exam marking and Exam Counselling
