About

Emek is a solicitor (England & Wales, np), attorney at law (Istanbul Bar) and an accredited mediator. She holds a LL.B from the University of Kent and a Turkish-French civil law degree from Université Galatasaray. Prior to joining Kent Law School (KLS) in 2019, Emek worked as a transactional (corporate) lawyer at a number of prominent international law firms.

Research interests

Emek’s research interests lie in company law, financial law and legal education. She is particularly interested in blockchain and its influence on the future of banking & finance.

Teaching

Emek’s expertise spans contract law, company law, banking law and dispute resolution. She teaches on both the undergraduate and postgraduate programme and leads Company Law & Capitalism, Banking Law and Mediation.

She teaches on the following modules:

  • LAWS5200 Company Law & Capitalism (undergraduate, module convenor)  
  • LAWS5820 Banking Law (undergraduate)
  • LAWS6390 Mediation (undergraduate & postgraduate, module convenor)
  • LAWS6500 Contract Law (undergraduate)
  • LAWS6510 Tort Law (undergraduate)

Administrative Duties

Currently, Emek is Director of Education for Stage 2 (Deputy Director of Education for Kent Law School) and Director of Mediation.
Between 2020-2022 Emek was Academic Advice Co-Ordinator where she pioneered a new Academic Advice Programme for KLS (2020-2022). This made a significant contribution to improvements in KLS’s NSS scores and was so successful it has been identified as an example of best practice by the University. The programme has been adopted in its entirety by other divisions at the University of Kent, such as the Division for Natural Sciences.
