SAMS Event: Open Collaboration for Innovation and Change in Healthcare and Medicine

Kent Business School (KBS) is hosting a two-day workshop on 26 – 27 February 2020 at the KBS Medway Campus.

The event is sponsored by The Society for the Advancement of Management Studies. The event organisers are Professor Marian Garcia, Professor Jeremy Howells and Dr Gloria Appiah.

This workshop aims to provide a platform for a series of discussions on the complex management challenges we now face in healthcare and medicine. The event will explore the emerging digital environments of innovation and collaboration that result in the architecture of open participation and creativity to address complex healthcare and medicine challenges.

The workshop will feature a number of presentations with an assigned facilitator who will lead discussions after the presentation including Professor Chris Holland, Dean of the Kent and Medway Medical School, who will open the event on Wednesday 26 February 2020. The event invites conceptual and/or empirical papers that can advance our understanding of open innovation in healthcare and medicine. Extended abstracts of up to 1,000 words should be emailed to Dr Gloria Appiah by 19 January 2020 (email: g.appiah@kent.ac.uk). The abstracts will be used to select an appropriate set of papers that can lead to further networking and collaboration opportunities between participants. If you would like to attend without presenting, please email Dr Gloria Appiah to reserve a place as soon as possible for catering purposes.

In conjunction, the event will include a Professional Development Workshop for doctoral candidates and Early Career Researchers in any management-related discipline. The workshop will focus on professional development with a particular emphasis on strategies for successful publishing and managing an academic career.

The workshop will also feature a Panel Discussion with researchers, practitioners and government agencies to debate the paradigmatic shift towards open and collaborative innovation models in healthcare and medicine.

The event timings are as follows:

  • Wednesday 26 February 2020 (11:30 am – 21:00 pm)
  • Thursday 27 February 2020 (9:00 am – 14:30 pm).
