Our exciting MBA Guest Lecture Series continues on Friday 10 March 2023, covering the important topics of diversity and inclusion with a focus on women in leadership.
This free hybrid event will run from 12.30 until 14.00 (GMT) on Zoom and in-person in the MBA Suite in Sibson. It will include no less than four esteemed guest speakers on our panel, the second being Tione Taweni Chakhwantha.
Tione is a Gender Advocate from Malawi who is very passionate about the subject of women and leadership. She is a former Kent MBA ‘Women in Leadership’ Scholar (2020) and Commonwealth Scholar (2021) for Master of Arts in Gender and Development Studies within the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) at the University of Sussex under the Commonwealth Commission Scholarship theme of ‘Access, Inclusion and Opportunity’.
When she first came to Kent, she told us, ‘Though numbers make me tick, I am also passionate about Gender Equality – I advocate for women and girls both in the community and business to have equal access to resources and opportunities, including economic participation and decision making. I act as the girl’s role model by telling them my story, ensuring them that everything is possible in life with hard work. KBS’s reputation for research in gender equality was another reason I chose to study an MBA here.’
She had already been recognised as one of the high-profile ladies in 2017 for The Graca Machel Trust (GMT) Women Creating Wealth (WCW) program, which is designed to strengthen the business acumen of African female entrepreneurs; transforming women’s mindsets and businesses from income generation to wealth. We can’t wait to hear more about her recent successes.
This is a free event and is open to all University of Kent MBA students, alumni and the wider business community. Register your place today.
Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality. Collectively we can all #EmbraceEquity.
