After eight years as Director of Research and Associate Dean for Research, Catherine brings to ICCI a wealth of experience in developing collaborative research practices at Kent, including our Signature Research Themes and working with businesses and institutions, mainly in the Heritage and GLAM sectors, to apply that research in meaningful ways that open up new audiences.
Her own research specialism is in the history of the Creative Industries – the beginnings of commercial theatre, and the development of dress and textile, furniture and furnishing design and making techniques in the early modern period. In this work, she is interested in who had access to these skills and this knowledge, and what opportunities their creative practice gave them for social mobility.
I want to learn from comparisons between past and present aspects of inclusion and diversity in the Cultural and Creative Industries, and to ensure that we will still be inspiring new audiences and practices in 400 years' time.
