Dr Andrew Cohen

About

Andrew Cohen received his BA and PhD from the University of Sheffield and his Master of Studies (MSt) from the University of Oxford. Before joining the University of Kent he worked in the International Studies Group at the University of the Free State (UFS), South Africa, where he retains a research fellowship.

Research interests

Andrew's research interests focus on the late 19th- and 20th-century British Empire and the early decades of independence in sub-Saharan African countries. He is particularly interested in the ways in which multinational business navigated the rapidly changing political landscape of late colonial/early post-colonial Africa.

Teaching

Andrew teaches predominantly on the global history of empires, conquest and resistance in southern Africa, and themes and controversies in imperial history.

Supervision

Andrew would be happy to hear from prospective postgraduate students who wish to explore political or economic aspects of imperialism.
