Research Postgraduate Tools to Take Away

Grow you academic future by 'packing your suitcase' with tools and resources, recommended by the library, that you can continue to use after leaving the University of Kent.

Open Science Foundation

Use OSF to store and access your files now and after you leave Kent.

OSF is a free and open source project management tool that supports researchers throughout their entire project lifecycle.

Use OSF to manage access to your files on a wide or granular level, so that you can work on projects privately, collaboratively, or make the entire project publicly accessible for broad dissemination.

Reference Management Tools

Managing your bibliographic references helps you stay organised and can save you a lot of time.

Use reference management tools to help you keep track of the books, book chapters, journal articles or any other material you use in your research, from a range of different sources. You can use it:

  • to store and organise your references
  • to create a reference list or bibliography for your assignment, dissertation or thesis
  • to insert your references into your work
  • with the correct referencing style for your publisher.

ORCiD

Get an ORCID to give yourself a persistent digital identifier and distinguish yourself from other researchers.

Connect your iD with your professional information — affiliations, grants, publications, peer review, and more. Share your information with other systems to ensure you get recognition for all your contributions, saving you time and hassle, and reducing the risk of errors.

DMP Online

DMP Online is a free online tool that will help you to create, review, and share data management plans that meet funder requirements. It is provided by the Digital Curation Centre (DCC).

Templates are available within the tool that will help you to meet the requirements of different funders and institutions.

When starting a new plan, you will answer three questions to get the funder template that you need. These include funder and university specific guidance to help you answer the questions.

Kent Academic Repository (KAR)

Export research works that you have made discoverable on KAR to easily add them to other platforms.

This can be beneficial if you move to a different university or you want to maximise use of other dissemination channels.
