All visitors can use the Templeman Library's collections in the building. If you want to borrow items, apply for borrower membership.
About borrower membership
With borrower membership you can borrow 7 day loan items from the Templeman Library (the majority of our collection) and some Drill Hall Library items.
It doesn't allow access to:
- journals / periodicals, or
- online resources due to licensing restrictions.
Who can apply
Anyone except current Kent students and staff can apply for borrower membership. (Current students and staff have library membership by default.)
How to apply
Documents you'll need
Proof of your name, address and date of birth, which may include photo ID.
Acceptable forms of ID are:
- passport
- birth certificate
- driving licence
- ID card
- recent (6 months) utility bill, council tax bill, or bank statement

Fill in the appropriate online application form from one of the options below. We'll process your application as quickly as possible and send you a link to pay for your membership.

- 5 books at a time: £81
- 10 books at a time: £135
- 3-month membership:

University of Kent retired staff
To obtain this membership, your reason for leaving Kent must be "retirement".

Schools and colleges
If you are 16 or older and in full-time education at a school or college in Kent, you can get up to two years' free membership of the Templeman Library.
