Overview
KDR is the research data repository for the University of Kent. It provides a secure and compliant research data archive for data created at the University of Kent, and holds records of University of Kent data archived elsewhere.
The repository accepts all types of research data whether it is born digital or has been rendered into a digital format. Research data are any recorded information that supports or validates research observations, findings or outputs.
KDR is managed according to FAIR data principles. It uses metadata schema and functionality that ensures data archived is Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable.

How to use the Kent Data Repository
After login to KDR you will be automatically directed to your Manage Deposits area. This is where records you have added to KDR are listed. Not all items in this area are live in KDR. Also, this list doesn't include details of records that have been deposited by other people.
Only you can see items with the status User Work Area. You and Research and Scholarly Communications Support Team members can see records under Review, and anyone can see items with the status Live Archive.
From this page you can create new records and view records you have already deposited.
Access this video about Managing deposits to the Kent Data Repository.
Use our guide about how to add a record manually or access this video about how to deposit data to the Kent Data Repository.
When you upload your data you must:
- organise and prepare your data using appropriate formats for long term storage and access
- agree to the conditions of use and a deposit agreement
- include a README file with adequate documentation to enable others to accurately reuse the data. Email researchsupport@kent.ac.uk to obtain a blank README file template
Once a thesis is submitted, our postgraduate researchers are welcome to send their research data to the Research and Scholarly Communication team, and we will upload it to KDR. Find out how to prepare your data for KDR.
When you deposit a file, you declare that it can be lawfully published to the Kent Data Repository and does not, to the best of your knowledge, infringe the copyright or other intellectual property rights of any other person or party. See the University's copyright policy and guidelines.
