Dr Blanka Hilton (scientific name Szulc) received her PhD in Chemistry and Neuropharmacology from UCL School of Pharmacy. During her multidisciplinary PhD project involving extensive electrophysiology training under the supervision of Dr Arnaud Ruiz, she discovered a novel putative cognitive enhancer drug based on the natural product clausenamide. In 2014 she started her Postdoctoral training with Professor Kittler in the UCL Neuroscience Physiology and Pharmacology Department, where her research involved investigating mitochondrial and autism associated disorder protein and its role on excitatory and inhibitory transmission and synaptic plasticity in the brain. In 2020 she joined The Centre for Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry as a research fellow in Neuroscience and PET Pharmacology to map neuroinflammation in frontotemporal lobar degeneration in a collaborative project between Dr Kerstin Sander and Professor Tammaryn Lashley at UCL. In 2021 she achieved the status of Associate Fellow (AFHEA) from Advance HE and later joined University of Kent as a Lecturer in Applied Bioscience (Pharmacology and Neuroscience).
