About
Stephen joined the University in May 2013. During his tenure he has become a certified member of the Association for Learning Technology (CMALT) and has, and continues to, work closely with academic colleagues in the development and delivery of online teaching and learning resources to enhance the student experience.
Stephen's journey to the University of Kent took many twists and turns. Having originally gained a qualification in magazine journalism, Stephen embarked on a career in publishing which featured many varied roles ranging from sub-editing Portsmouth City Council's youth magazine to editing a professional wrestling magazine. His journey into higher education began at the University of Portsmouth putting his editorial skills to good use working with academic colleagues to develop printed and online distance learning and training materials before he transitioned into the learning technologist role at Canterbury Christ Church University and now at Kent.
Along with colleagues in the e-learning team, Stephen found himself much in demand during the COVID-19 pandemic supporting academic colleagues in the repurposing of course materials facilitate online delivery and remote consumption by students. The team was recognised for its support of academic colleagues as the team received the University of Kent Learning Support prize. Stephen has taken great pride in supporting all academic colleagues in this endeavour, but especially those less technically confident who found themselves working well outside their comfort zone and hopes to build on this in the future to continue to improve levels of digital literacy across the institution.
Outside of work Stephen enjoys cooking, soul music and being proud dad to Jessica and Oliver.
