Yasamin Talebi - Kent Business School international student

Time to prepare for your postgrad.

Yasamin Talebi came to the UK from Iran to study International Business and Management, starting in January.

Ready to move forward

Having completed her English Literature degree and worked as an English teacher, Yasamin was ready to move on to the next stage of her career. ‘I felt confident in the work I was doing and ready to move forward. My plan was to move into a managerial role and I knew to do that I would need to gain new skills’

Keen to study abroad, Yasamin began the search for a Master’s. ‘I finished my undergrad in January 2023 and wanted to research my options thoroughly before choosing my postgrad. It was a big decision and I wanted to get it right. As an English literature graduate, I wanted to keep an international element in my studies while building up management expertise and business knowledge.'

Kent was the perfect choice

'The University of Kent was always an option for me – Kent’s a very popular university among Persians, due to its ranking, particularly in the business and management field. Kent also has a good reputation for diversity and inclusion, and the range of graduate opportunities it offers. And it’s a great location! So I was delighted to discover it offered an International Business and Management Master’s, with the option of starting in January. The course was exactly what I was looking for, the international dimension was key, and the modules offered were amazing. The fact that I was able to start in January rather than September gave me more time to gain further experience and build confidence before moving to the UK. It was perfect for me.'

Studying on campus.

"I’ll never forget the first day I arrived on campus; it was raining and cold, but I had such an adrenaline rush. The campus exceeded my expectations, it was a dream come true! Attending my first class, meeting the other students, being able to speak to the lecturer and ask questions directly was great too.

My course mates are all very friendly. We’re a small, international group from different cultures and backgrounds. It’s been fascinating to learn with them, to find out about their lives and why they chose to study at Kent."

Supporting your study.

"As a January start student, your classes continue through the summer (we do get a break!). It is an intense experience, but the support is there – the staff in KBS are amazing. The hard work all proved worthwhile when I achieved a Distinction at the end of the first stage – it was a wonderful feeling.

From September, it’s all about completing your dissertation, so you’re working independently with the support of your supervisor. You have to submit your dissertation in January, but I aim to complete mine by Christmas."
