If you're applying for an undergraduate course from outside the UK, or as an international student within the UK, you might not know what Clearing is - that's okay, you're not alone. Here's everything you need to know to understand what Clearing means for you.

So, what is clearing?


In England, most undergraduate students apply for University before the end of January - before they get their results. 

However, this isn't always the case. Clearing is an opportunity for you to apply to study in the UK after you have already had your exam results, or if you've just taken a bit more time to consider all of your options.

This means that you can be more confident in your decision making, and go through a far quicker application process. You could apply now and be living and studying in the UK by September. 

What courses can I apply for?

When can I apply?

Clearing opens in July and closes in August. If we make you an offer we'll just need you to confirm your results with us as soon as you have them.

Can international students apply through clearing?

Yes! International students can apply to study in the UK through Clearing.

How do I know if I'm eligible?

As an International student, you will be eligible to apply through Clearing if:

  • You are applying for an undergraduate course
  • You applied through UCAS but didn’t receive any offers by 30 June
  • You’ve received unexpected exam results and need to look for alternative courses
  • You’ve had a change of heart since you applied to UCAS and want to explore other options
  • You didn’t meet the conditions of your firm or insurance choice
  • You haven’t applied through UCAS before.

Important information

As an international student, you must apply by 22 August 2024 to be able to start at Kent this September through Clearing. Check out some other key deadlines to keep in mind when you apply to Kent. 

  • 22 August 2024 - Application deadline 
  • 26 August 2024 – Deadline for Clearing applicants to add University of Kent as their Clearing choice 
  • 28 August 2024 – Deadline to meet offer conditions and accept offer 
  • 29 August – Deadline to make deposit payment  
  • 30 August 2024 – Deadline to meet Pre-CAS Conditions 
  • 5 September 2024 - CAS Issuance Deadline 
  • 14 October 2024 - Last day of registration
