Art and Science: Two Cultures?
Monday 17th March 2014, 18.00 - 20.00. Jarman Studio 2.
In his 1959 Rede Lecture, C. P. Snow spoke eloquently and provocatively about the 'two cultures' of science and the arts, articulating a growing trend in the 20th Century towards this bifurcation. However, the last decade has seen a marked increase in work that attempts to straddle this alleged divide, from plays about science to sci-art collaborations and the growing field of neuroesthetics. This panel will attempt to address the extent to which this notion of two cultures is still valid (assuming it ever was) beginning with short provocations from each of our guest speakers followed by a lengthy discussion and audience questions.
