Georgina Randsley de Moura, EDI Lead and Race Champion for the Executive Group introduces our Challenging Racism campaign…

'As the Executive Group lead for issues relating to equality, diversity and inclusion, I am pleased to introduce this new resource, bringing together the actions that we are taking to address the significant challenges of systematic racism within our institution.

'As an institution and as individual members of the community at Kent, we have a significant role to play in ensuring that we challenge and deconstruct systemic racism and all forms of discrimination. As we set out in our statement of intent, we know that we as an organisation, can do better in being actively and visibly anti-racist, be better and become an institution that all our staff and student communities will feel supported by, welcome in and proud of.

'We hope these pages will provide clear and transparent information to hold us accountable as we continue to take actions to challenge racism, including the structural and process issues raised by members of our community. We recognise that this is a work in progress, and as the large scale governance and management changes that we have initiated start to take effect, there will be an increasingly dynamic rate of change.

'We also bring together events, initiatives and activities from across our student and staff communities that we encourage everyone to attend and be involved in, in order to educate ourselves to ensure we are engaged with the issues that stem from systemic and cultural racism.

'We welcome input from all members of our community, whether feedback on actions to date, requests for updates to actions, or new areas that we should be focusing on. To get in touch please email dvcacademic@kent.ac.uk.  I look forward to working with you in the future'.
