About

Sonya Reines-Djivanides is a visiting lecturer at the Brussels School of International Studies at the University of Kent, teaching a module on mediation and negotiation.  Sonya is a peacebuilding professional with more than fifteen years of global experience in international conflict resolution, advocacy, facilitation, management and program development. 

She has been the Executive Director of the European Peacebuilding Liaison Office (EPLO) since April 2015. EPLO is the independent civil society platform of European NGOs, networks of NGOs and think tanks, which are committed to peacebuilding, and the prevention of violent conflict.  Prior to joining EPLO, she was the Director of Search For Common Ground’s (SFCG) Brussels Headquarters and also managed the development and implementation of SFCG’s Track II mediation programmes.

Sonya received her Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in Political Science and French from The University of New Mexico. She received her Master of Arts in International Relations from Syracuse University. At the United States Institute of Peace, she then earned a Graduate Certificate in International Mediation, a certificate in Conflict Analysis and training in post conflict reconstruction and humanitarian situations. She also finished a Peace Mediation Course with the Swiss Department of Foreign Affairs.
