About

Sam has been a professional Prop-maker since finishing his apprenticeship at the English National Opera; he has worked and created items for film, theatre, museums, theme-parks and in most areas of the entertainment industry. Sam specialised in mould-making, casting and life-casting and some of the companies he worked for include Lucasfilms, The Really Useful Group, Bill Kenright LTD, Disney corps, The National Theatre, The Royal Opera House, Madam Tussauds group, The Science Museum, Damien Hirst,  MDModels  and many other small companies and productions.

Sam is a practising artist with interests in installation, street art and immersive environments.

He has a BA hons in Fine Arts from Central/St Martin’s College of Art and Design and is in the process of finishing his Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education. He starts his MA Practise as Research this year focusing on using spaces to form narratives

Sam joined the University of Kent, School of Arts in 2002 Teaching, managing and supervising all aspects of scenic art and construction for the students, in the School of Arts fully equipped workshop. Particular areas of student supervision and development are puppetry and manipulated objects, scenic painting, life-casting and sculpting.

Teaching

Sam joined the University of Kent, School of Arts in 2002 Teaching, managing and supervising all aspects of scenic art and construction for the students, in the School of Arts fully equipped workshop. Particular areas of student supervision and development are puppetry and manipulated objects, scenic painting, life-casting and sculpting.

Modules convened and taught at the University of Kent include:

  • M level Scenography (Drama)
  • Year 3 Scenography,(Drama)
  • Stage practise(Drama),
  • Theatre workshop (Drama),
  • Year 2 Celebratory performance (EED)

He has taught on the BA hons degree in Creative Arts for Theatre and Film, at the University for the Creative Arts in Rochester.
Also Taught workshops with schools and Further Education Colleges. for the University of Kent Partnership and Development Office.
