E.C.S Kick Off the the Spring Term hosting Professor Madhavi Venkatesan for a talk on Economics of Sustainability.

So who is Professor Madhavi Venkatesan?

Prof. Madhavi Venkatesan earned a PhD, MA, and BA in Economics from Vanderbilt University, a Masters in Sustainability and Environmental Management from Harvard University, and a Masters in Environmental Law and Policy from Vermont Law School. She has published three economics textbooks under series A Framework for Sustainable Practices: Economic Principles: A Primer, Foundations of Microeconomics and Foundations for Microeconomics. In 2009 she published her fourth text, SDG8- Sustainable Economic Growth and Decent Work for All. Her current academics interests include integration of sustainability into the economics curriculum.

What is the Economics of Sustainability?

Looking at the economy and environment as a interlinked system. It looks at promoting long-term economic growth, without negatively impacting the environment, cultures, societies and systems. Which links into the Sustainable Development Goals.

Who are ECS?

ECS (Environmental. Conservation. Sustainability) are a society at the University of Kent which look to promote change and face current issues in Canterbury. Their aim is to allow all schools and disciplines to meet together, weekly, with a common goal, to with hopes of facilitating change in Canterbury and on campus. Thus far they have been awarded ‘Most Improved Group 2020’ and ‘Society of the Year 2020’ in the first year of their formation, so this is certainly an important UKC society.
