The Healer and the Psychiatrist, an ethnographic and documentary film made by Senior Lecturer in Social Anthropology, Dr Mike Poltorak, has been accepted as part of the official selection of the 9th Garifuna International Indigenous Film Festival in Venice, California in May 2020. The GIIFF is one of the most prestigious festivals in the US celebrating indigenous cultures from around the world.
The festival will follow a screening of the documentary on the 17th of April as part of the annual meeting of the Society for the Study of Psychiatry and Culture (SSPC) in Rhode Island. The theme of the conference is Collaboration: Partnership, Translation, Integration. On the 20th April, the documentary will be screened at Harvard University, co-hosted by the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine (Harvard Medical School) and Cultural Survival.
