Academic Ambassador
Responsibilities – Might involve teaching subject-specific sessions for academic schools and may sometimes be a point of contact for outreach activities in academic schools. Might also involve mentoring students in their subject area at either GCSE or A-level, or teaching on the Adult Access Course.
Skills required – Excellent teaching skills and in-depth knowledge of subject area.
Pre-requisites – Enrolled on a postgraduate course, usually a PhD.
Training required – Academic Ambassador Core Training (also an opportunity to attend optional Tutor Training)
Academic Support Ambassador
Responsibilities – To develop and deliver subject-specific sessions to individuals or small groups of students, which are in line with the national curriculum and relevant to the age, level and qualification of the students.
Skills required – Excellent knowledge of subject area and the ability to communicate with clarity and enthusiasm to a range of age groups.
Pre-requisites – Enrolled on a postgraduate course, usually a PhD.
Training required – Postgraduate Ambassador Core Training and an additional bespoke training session to cover information and guidance related to the specific academic support required. Two online modules; Health & Safety and Equality & Diversity
Direct-entry teaching mentorships
Responsibilities – Delivery of pre-designed progression or subject curriculum, in the University’s partner and KMPF schools and colleges, on a modular basis over a number of weeks.
Skills required – Ability to deliver educational materials with confidence and clarity to school and college students in the classroom.
Pre-requisites – Enrolled in a postgraduate qualification in the year when work would commence. Experience of instructing, teaching or tutoring others, in a classroom environment. Direct-Entry Teaching Internship participants undergo an interview with Outreach and Widening Participation staff.
Training required – Direct-entry Teaching Internship Training is provided.
