Outreach Tutor
Responsibilities –Delivering a range of talks, presentations and workshops on campus and in schools and colleges throughout Kent.
Skills required – Excellent knowledge of Higher Education, strong public speaking skills and a high level of professionalism.
Pre-requisites – Enrolled on a programme of study at the University of Kent (UG or PG). Clear understanding and awareness of widening participation and the work of the Outreach and Widening Participation team.
Training required – Core training, Outreach Tutor training.
Lead Ambassador
Responsibilities – The briefing, co-ordination and debriefing of ambassadors; delivery of a short introductory talk; ensuring that the timetable is running smoothly; acting as a link between PDO staff, visiting school teachers, university staff and ambassadors; engaging the visiting school students and facilitating their communication with ambassadors and other staff; and leading a plenary talk including a question and answer session.
Skills required - Enthusiasm, attention to detail, maturity, a calm, diplomatic and professional attitude and the ability to use initiative.
Pre-requisites – Be employed as a Central Scheme Ambassador at the University of Kent.
Training required – Core training, Lead Ambassador training.
Learning Mentor
Responsibilities – Supporting students on either our Medway or Thanet Access to HE Diploma, as well as new mature students on undergraduate courses at our Canterbury and Medway campuses (Adult Learning Mentor) or youth Access to HE Diploma, known as the University Entrance Diploma or UEd (Youth Learning Mentor).
Skills required – Knowledge of the University of Kent. An understanding of HE, UCAS admissions procedure and available financial support. Excellent communication skills and a flexible approach to supporting learners from a range of backgrounds.
Pre-requisites – Be employed as a Central Scheme Ambassador at the University of Kent.
Training required – Core Training, Learning Mentor Training.
Subject Support Ambassador
Responsibilities – Devising and running subject specific sessions. This may also involve supporting sessions over a period of time (e.g. 5 x weekly sessions) – generally undergraduate.
Skills required –Excellent teaching skills, knowledge about and passion for specialist subject area.
Pre-requisites - A minimum of a year’s experience and a minimum of 15 different activities/ events undertaken as an ambassador at the University of Kent or more than a year’s experience in another educational establishment.
Training required – Core Training, Tutor Training.
Direct-entry Teaching Internship
Responsibilities – Delivery of pre-designed progression or subject curriculum, in the University’s partner and KMPF schools and colleges, on a modular basis over a number of weeks.
Skills required – Ability to deliver educational materials with confidence and clarity to school and college students in the classroom.
Pre-requisites – Enrolled in the final year of an undergraduate qualification in the year when work would commence. Experience of instructing, teaching or tutoring others, in a classroom environment. Direct-Entry Teaching Internship participants undergo an interview with Partnership Development Office staff.
Training required – Direct-entry Teaching Internship Training is provided.
