History Pre-1965

Newspaper article about Kent

This project is exploring the history of the University of Kent and its surrounding area, from the Roman period through to its construction in 1965. The project will be considering historic buildings such as Blean Church and Beverly Farm, both of which are listed buildings. Canterbury has always had a rich history in education, starting with the first Archbishop of Canterbury in the Anglo-Saxon period.

To explore this, researchers are contacting local historians and institutions for a complete history of the site with the aim of producing a timeline of Kent's varied history. They will also be looking into the original construction of the University, its architecture and the visionaries who designed and created it.

If anyone has any memories of the site before or about the creation of the University, we would be very grateful to hear from you.
