Canterbury and Medway
Our 50th anniversary celebrations began with opening ceremonies on 1 October at our Canterbury campus and on 2 October at our Medway campus. Members of the local community joined our students, staff and alumni for an evening of live music, entertainment and spectacular fireworks as we celebrated the start of the University’s 50th anniversary year. At our Canterbury campus, there was also the opportunity to go for a ride on the Kent Wheel and take in stunning views of the University and the city of Canterbury as the sun set.
At each event, a performance by the Kent Salsa Society was followed by a variety of live music acts. Ben Russell and the Charmers performed at both ceremonies, accompanied by Stranded at the Jivin' (Keynestock 2013 winners) at Canterbury and Wondermoth and Rock Avenue at Medway. Stand-up comic and Kent alumna, Cerrie Hodgson, was our fantastic compère for the Canterbury ceremony.
Students from the School of History were on hand to talk about the 50th anniversary History Projects, capturing people's memories and photographs of the University. Our big 'We are Kent' selfie competition was also launched!
