Dr Gabriela Roch graduated in 1995 with a BSc in Physics with Astrophysics from the University of Kent, having spent one year at the Complutense University of Madrid. She then continued on at Kent and gained a PhD in 1999 with the Materials Group under Professor Mark Smith, the title of her thesis being ‘A Solid State NMR Investigation of the Thermal Transformations of Clay Minerals’.
On completing her PhD, Gabriela then went on to work as an overhead lines engineer within the Engineering and Technology department at the National Grid Company working on electromagnetic compatibility issues and analysing data from the Geomagnetically Induced Currents (GIC) project.
In 2001 Gabriela gained teacher status and worked in secondary schools as a Physics teacher before returning to the University of Kent in 2006 as a subject specialist, developing and delivering outreach activities within the Faculty of Sciences, working and collaborating with the Faculty's departments and the University’s Partner Schools. She was then appointed Physics Lecturer in the School of Physics and Astronomy in 2016 and teaches on foundation and first year courses.
