University journalism student Victoria Polley has received a national award for her exceptional performance in broadcast exams.

She was one of ten top-performing students from across the UK to be presented with awards on 6 February for their performance in the National Council for the Training of Journalists’ (NCTJ) Diploma in Journalism exams.

Hosted this year by News UK at the NCTJ Student Council forum in London, the students were presented with a certificate and a cheque for £250.

Victoria won the ITV News award for broadcast journalism for achieving the best combined result in the broadcast exams while studying at the University’s Centre for Journalism. She was presented with her award by ITV News London broadcaster Nina Hossain.

Victoria said that she ‘honoured’ to receive the award and ‘proud to be representing the Centre for Journalism’.

Professor Tim Luckhurst, Director of the Centre for Journalism, said the achievement of ‘excellent students such as Victoria’ explained why the Centre for Journalism’s undergraduate degree ‘is ranked best in the UK by the Guardian University Guide 2015 and why it ranks consistently among the top performers in the NCTJ league tables’.
