Professor Dame Julia Goodfellow continues Kent’s global engagement programme with a visit to Latin America between 29 January and 5 February.
During her visit to Brazil, Chile and Ecuador, Dame Julia will meet with representatives from government, industry bodies and the education sectors. These include: Dr Guillaume Long, Ecuador’s Minister of Knowledge and Human Talent; Nicolás Eyzaguirre, Chile’s Deputy Minister of Education; and Professor Roberto Gonzalez, Academic Vice-President and Director of International Relations at Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile.
Kent’s global engagement programme, which is part of the University’s 50th Anniversary celebrations, aims to showcase its particular strengths and successes, including its ranking as a top 20 research institution in the UK following the government’s recent Research Excellence Framework (REF). It also serves to highlight Kent’s growing reputation as an international strategic and research partner, and the opportunities it can both provide and create as the ‘UK’s European university’.
Dame Julia said: ‘As the Vice-Chancellor of a research intensive university with a strong international profile, I believe we are well placed to develop new and exciting partnerships and to strengthen existing collaborations.’
Professor Roger Vickerman, Kent’s Dean for Europe, will accompany Dame Julia on the visit.
The previous leg of Kent’s global engagement programme included visits by Dame Julia and colleagues to China and Japan.
